Burundi Turaco
Burundi Turaco
Process: Washed
Origins: Ngozi & Kayanza
Altitude: 1600-1900 MASL
Burundi Turaco is the product of various smallholder farming families throughout the Ngozi and Kayanza regions of Burundi, contributing their harvest to washing stations operated by Bugestal and GreenCo (UTZ, 4C, & Rainforest Alliance Certified).
Typically, harvests are handpicked by each growing family, with small annual yields of between 450-650 lbs. In many instances, finding an avenue to sell such small harvests, and transporting them to a local washing station proves difficult and costly for smallholder farmers. As a solution, 12 collection sites have been established by Bugestal & GreenCo where farmers can deliver their crop and be paid the same amount as if they had delivered directly to the washing station. By having transportation costs covered, farmers are not disadvantaged based on location.

I like to blend a lot. It’s a deep roast without being bitter. It’s great for winter mornings.
